A bit of light reading for a dreary day.

In the interest of starting this week out right, I’ll toss a title your way for a little light, witty reading. Sound good?
Comedy is a must around these parts. You know, laughter being the best medicine and all that. Have you read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling? If not, pick it up somewhere. Read it on a long flight. Keep it by the bed for a literary nightcap. It’s fun and I’m sure you’ll like it.

Mindy, as I’ll call her (because we’d be friends if we were acquainted, I’m sure), has worked hard to become the actress/writer/producer she is today. In this book, she recounts some of her experiences and struggles. As is to be expected, it’s all hilarious and will remind you that you’re not alone in the middle of this strangeness we call life.

Read it and let me know what you think, sound good?

      1. She is! I’m really digging The Mindy Project this season, too (last night’s episode was amazing). But obviously the Doctor comes first ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I almost picked this book up at BN but wasn’t sureโ€ฆ
You know how sometimes people are funny on TV and then you see them in an interview or read an article and blahโ€ฆ that’s what made me wait.
So, glad to see you have good things to sayโ€ฆ I’m in!
    XOXO

    1. I completely agree—you never know how much of someone’s shtick is written for them. I was pleasantly surprise with her talent. She wrote for The Office before she ever acted on the show. She’s got skills! I hope you enjoy it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I find it so iterating how many celebrities write memoirs. I wonder how much is their actual writing. As someone with a literary blog, I love that celebrities are inspiring the culture to read more. Great post.

    1. I’ve wondered the same and was very happy to find that her voice is quite evident in this book. As she was a writer before she was an actress, I don’t think she’d let someone write a book for her. It’s more of a collection of essays than a memoir per se, although she recalls several events from her past throughout. I hope you enjoy it if you give it a go!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I thought she looked familiar–The Office actress! I love the character, but more importantly, I saw her in another movie somewhere, I wish I could remember the title, and she was hilarious in the film! I didn’t know she had a book out. I may very well check it out!

    1. She was so funny in that series! The movie you’re thinking of…maybe The Five-Year Engagement or No Strings Attached? She is very talented and very funny. Reading her book really is like having a conversation with her. Enjoy if you decide to pick it up!

    1. I think I’m a bit behind. Two so far, I think. I’m working on three books at once now. It’s hard to keep the two writing books separate in my head!

Hope you like this one, Liz! It’s a fun read! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I read it last year and liked it a lot. I liked her writing style–she makes ordinary things sound very funny. And I love reading about a woman’s rise to the top, especially often outnumbered by men.

  5. Have you read Tina Fey’s “Bossypants”? We can do a trade! I’ll hang out with Mindy and you hang out with Tina and then we’ll get back together and plot how we can casually run into the two of them and become instant best friends.

    1. I have read it! And loved it (of course!). Tina Fey inspired me to say “to heck with it!” and start writing for real. That lady is the cooooooolest.

As far as casually running into them and becoming best friends—we should start working on a plan. ๐Ÿ˜‰
